Please join us for our monthly gathering around the Virtual Shabbat Table! We will gather together to share community and conversation as we celebrate the Jewish traditions of Shabbat, light the candles, and bless the wine and challah. Stay connected with CBI friends and neighbors, or meet new ones, as we enjoy the joys of fellowship and comfort of camaraderie.
Join members of the CBI Israel-Palestine Learning Committee for a book discussion of Peter Beinart's Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza. All are welcome to attend — please bring the book, a readiness to listen to each other, and an open heart. Those who plan on joining us should RSVP via our website; this event will be held onsite only.
Join the CBI choir and musicians for a celebration of the Festival of Lights with music both old and new! Musical selections will include traditional Ashkenazi and Sephardi Chanukah songs as well as contemporary compositions. We’ll close with a family-friendly singalong featuring some favorite Chanukah tunes. After the concert, we’ll segue into potluck refreshments, dreidels and gelt, and kid-friendly Chanukah arts and crafts; please bring a contribution for the potluck table and an unopened box of pasta to donate to the Berkshire Food Project.
Please note that this month's First Friday Shabbat Zoom Gathering has been cancelled — we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused. Instead, please plan to join us when we resume on Friday, February 6. Thank you for understanding and happy holidays!
Our next meeting of the CBI Book Club will take place over Zoom on Thursday, January 29 (NEW DATE!) at 7:30pm (EST). Kantika ("song" in Ladino) was inspired by the life story of her maternal grandmother Rebecca Cohen, daughter of the Sephardic elite of early twentieth-century Istanbul, whose shapeshifting journey took her to Cuba, Spain and New York. Come talk about Kantika with author Elizabeth Graver and her mother, Suzanne Levy Graver, who leads CBI's book club and whose childhood is part of this story. This online event is free and open to the public.
Join Rabbi Rachel and the CBI community for a special wine-and-cheese tasting aligned with the four seasons, the Four Worlds of Jewish mysticism, and the journey through the spiritual year that is central to Tu BiShvat! We’ll bless and taste four wines (or juices) and cheeses alongside the customary tree fruits and nuts, celebrating the sap rising outside and the spiritual energies of spring’s renewal rising within us. $18 per adult; please note that the registration deadline for this event has passed.

The CBI Book Club will meet over Zoom to discuss The Photographer at Sixteen: The Death and Life of a Fighter by George Szirtes. The Photographer at Sixteen is a poet’s memoir of his mother that flows backwards through time, through a tumultuous period of European history – a tender and yet unsparing autobiographical journey. Those who plan on joining us should RSVP via our website; Zoom information will be sent to all who RSVP once the date gets closer.
When we think of Purim we may think of Esther and Mordechai, court intrigue, and graggers drowning out the name of the wicked Haman. But most liberal communities (including ours) rarely read or retell the penultimate chapter of the megillah. Join Rabbi Rachel for a text study of that final chapter alongside some of our tradition’s commentaries as we delve into the deep spiritual question of what this text can teach us and how we choose to relate to it today.
Join Rabbi Rachel Barenblat and Rabbi David Markus for a three-part mini-series preparing for Pesach in heart and spirit! Free for members; $108 for non-members.
