Our choir and musicians are a core part of spiritual and community life at CBI.
Many of our services are enriched by the singing of our community choir and supported by community musicians. Our choir and musicians also offer regular concerts that allow us to showcase other forms of Jewish music that are not necessarily liturgical / prayer-based.
The CBI Choir Is Open To All
The CBI choir is open to all – all levels of experience and all voice parts. We divide the year into three music seasons, and singers are welcome to join us for a season or on an ongoing weekly basis.
- During the summer we prepare for the Days of Awe / High Holidays.
- During the winter season we learn repertoire for our early spring concert. In 2023 that concert was our community’s doorway into Yom HaShoah, and in 2024, we shared a musical celebration of trees and the natural world for Tu BiShvat.
- And during the spring season we prepare for a concert on the cusp of summer. Our summer 2024 concert will be a musical journey through Jewish music in celebration of the revelation of Torah in all of her forms, This Too Is Torah: A Shavuot Concert at 3pm on June 9.
Instrumentalists are welcome to join the CBI band, which uplifts our prayer and song once a month during Kabbalat Shabbat services. As of this writing, our regular instruments include piano, guitar, tenor recorder, and double bass or electric bass. We also welcome instrumental participation in our high holiday services and three annual concerts.
Praise For Music at CBI
“People said the music was enlivening, that it gave them permission to sing along, that it made the service come alive in a new way. We had some guests davening with us that evening, and they told me they wished they had something like that (and a community like this) in the place where they live. High praise indeed!” – Rabbi Rachel, June 2023 From the Rabbi Column
Our Music Director
Both our choir and our band are directed by CBI member and Music Director Adam Green, a local choral composer. Our singers praise his passion for uplifting community voices and helping singers joyously grow as musicians. Adam attended Brandeis University, has sung with many choirs, and has been the music director at Congregation Beth Israel since 2022. He is a trans man, and he is passionate about the LGBT community, Jewish music, choral conducting, and cats.
