From The President

Dear Congregants and Friends,

I am still kvelling about the wonderful Jewish Journeys Shabbat service last Saturday morning, when our community, including students, their parents, grandparents, and other congregants, gathered in our sanctuary to celebrate Shabbat together in song and prayer. Students’ work from their elective classes was featured, and the D’var Torah was given by one of our students. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a communal potluck kiddush. Thanks to Rabbi Jarah and Rabbi Rachel for organizing and leading services, to all our teachers, and to the many who lent a hand to make this such a special occasion.

As we move into the new year, the Board is busy working on several initiatives, including Bylaws revision and member engagement strategies. The Bylaws Committee met and reviewed the Bylaws, and recommended revisions to the Board to make our Bylaws more current and to reflect the current realities and practices of our community, while staying true to our mission and values. The Board began its discussion of these proposed changes. We will bring the proposed revised Bylaws to the CBI membership for discussion prior to a congregational vote. We will send all members a list of meeting dates and the proposed Bylaws changes once the Board has completed its discussion, and hope that as many members as possible will participate in the process.

The Board also set up an Ad Hoc Engagement Committee to look at how we might better engage our adult members. They are reaching out and meeting in person and by phone with members to get your suggestions of what you’d like CBI to offer. If you want to get involved, either to join the committee or to give your ideas, please let me know.

I hope you’ll consider joining us for ongoing Shabbat services. Also on the horizon is the return of Game Night! All are welcome on Saturday, February 24 at 5:30pm. Bring your favorite games, an appetizer, salad, or dessert, and get ready for a fun evening. We’ll provide pizza and prizes! Please RSVP so we know how much to order.

And on Saturday, March 23 at 3pm at CBI, we are collaborating with NEFESH on an exciting Purim party, complete with live music, great food, and a spirited reenactment of the Purim story. Start working on your costume now! (And, of course, costumes are optional – join us with or without one.) Your early RSVP will help us with planning.

Warmly,

— Natalie Matus
