Our next meeting of the CBI Book Club, facilitated by Dr. Suzanne Levy Graver, Professor Emerita at Williams College, will take place over Zoom on Monday, September 15 at 7:30pm (EDT).
We will discuss Mona in the Promised Land by Gish Jen, award-winning author of Thank You, Mr. Nixon. Chinese-American teenager Mona Chang moves with her newly prosperous family to posh Scarshill, New York in 1968, where she is suddenly thrust into a new social landscape and does her best to fit in – even if it means converting to Judaism. “A shining example of a multicultural message delivered with the wit and bite of art. […] Gish Jen creates a particular world where dim sum is as American as apple pie.” (Los Angeles Times)
All are welcome! This book is available to purchase online in multiple formats. Those who plan on joining us should RSVP via our website; Zoom information will be sent to all who RSVP once the date gets closer.
