The CBI Book Club will discuss four short stories by Bernard Malamud. Enigmatic and mysterious, his stories mix the real and the fabulous, the natural and the supernatural. One effect of Malamud’s blend of the real and the fantastic is to endow the ethical with a sense of wonder and mystery. His blending of realism and fantasy produces stories that explore in amazing ways dilemmas about charity, pity, loyalty, compassion, responsibility, and love.
The stories are as follows: The Magic Barrel, The Jewbird, Idiots First, and Angel Levine. We’ll send links to the stories when you RSVP.
