We’ll take some time to write or decorate postcards to people on our community’s mi sheberach / healing list. And then we’ll close with havdalah\, the ritual that brings Shabbat to its close and sends us forth into the new week. To kick off the new week\, we’ll enjoy cheese and crudités and an opportunity to purchase Cindy’s chapbook; proceeds go to Caring For a Cure\, a cancer patient support organization. All are welcome!

We will not able to accommodate late RSVPs or walk-ins at this time. All payments from parties who did not register before the deadline will be refunded — thank you for understanding.\n\nAll are welcome to join us on Tuesday\, April 23 at 6pm for our family-friendly Second Night Community Passover Seder! Relive the Exodus through ritual\, poetry\, song\, and story. We’ll savor familiar melodies\, stirring poetry\, an impromptu Exodus play put on by community kids\, and more. A full kosher-for-Pesach meal will be provided (with vegetarian option); bring your own kosher for Passover table wine if you would like something other than Manischewitz. \n☆ All registrations must be received by no later than Monday\, April 8\, 2024. We must receive a RSVP in addition to your ticket payment. We will not able to accommodate late RSVPs or walk-ins due to the fact that this is a catered event. \n☆ Tickets are $45/adult & $10/child (ages 6-18); children ages 5 & under are free. If you would like to attend but the cost makes you hesitate\, please contact Rabbi Rachel by email as soon as possible. \nTickets must be paid for in full prior to the day of the event. Yizkor is recited on the last day of Pesach. Following Reform custom of celebrating seven days of Passover\, the seventh day begins Sunday evening and continues through Monday. \n\nIf you want to pray the Yizkor prayers on your own at another time\, here is the core silent prayer of the Yizkor service: \n \nHere is a link to the Yizkor prayers at Sefaria\, and here is an online shiva booklet that includes words of the Mourner’s Kaddish\, El Maleh Rachamim (“God\, Full of Compassion”)\, and Psalm 23.\n\nMay the memories of our loved ones lift us up\, this Pesach and always.

DESCRIPTION:Our May meeting of the CBI Book Club will take place over Zoom on Monday\, May 6 at 7:30pm (EDT) to discuss The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride (2023\, Penguin Random House). \nMcBride’s novel is set in Pottstown\, PA in 1972\, at a time when the Black and immigrant Jewish residents living in a dilapidated neighborhood came together to rescue a Black boy from being institutionalized. In so doing\, they successfully resist efforts made by the communities’ white and wealthier Christian residents to engage in this and other bigoted acts. An upbeat novel\, McBride shows “that it is love and community–heaven and earth–that ultimately sustain us.” This book appears regularly on The New York Times bestseller list\, being an immensely engaging read and a murder mystery to boot! \nThis book is available to purchase online in multiple formats. This year\, CBI’s Annual Meeting will be held in-person and over Zoom on Wednesday\, May 29 at 7:30pm (EDT). Everyone is welcome to attend\, though for security reasons\, you must RSVP in advance; those joining us online must register via Zoom in order to receive the Zoom link. \nAs always\, at the Annual Meeting we’ll offer reflections on the last six months\, celebrate our community\, and vote on the slate of Board members and officers. We will also vote on several changes to the Bylaws\, which was discussed during a special feedback session earlier this month. You can vote either in-person or via Zoom (as we have done since the pandemic). According to our Bylaws\, only regular members are allowed to vote (not Seasonal\, Associate\, or Student members)\, and only Jewish members are allowed to vote on changes to the Bylaws. Proxy voting is not allowed for non-real estate matters. \nThe agenda and supporting materials\, including an updated version of the proposed Bylaws changes\, will be made available prior to the meeting — please check the weekly announcements for more information. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Natalie Matus\, CBI President.
