DESCRIPTION:The Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is called Shabbat Shuvah — “The Shabbat of Return.” The high holiday season can feel full of words and liturgy. This Shabbat aims to balance that with holy quiet. This year we’ll return to our deepest selves with a gentle contemplative service featuring minimal liturgy\, ample time to let our melodies soak in\, and periods of holy silence to “seal” each chant. Mourner’s Kaddish will be recited in full. \nAll are welcome to join us onsite\, but you must RSVP via our website if you plan on attending. The reading will also be keyed to the inner journey through seven core qualities we seek to strengthen as we prepare for the new year. We’ll study Rambam’s writings on teshuvah (c. 1176) alongside R. Danya’s book as we each undertake our own journey of repentance and return. \n☆ This course is free for members and $120 for non-members; to register\, please click here. Classes will meet weekly on Tuesdays over Zoom at 7pm (EDT) from August 13 through September 24. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a concert of great Jewish music from throughout the ages! At Shavuot we celebrate the revelation of Torah in all of its forms\, and we gather to offer up the “first fruits” of the spring harvest. We’ll hear great music\, both Sefardic and Ashkenazi\, that spans different eras of Jewish history\, including compositions by Flory Jagoda\, Salomone Rossi\, Naomi Shemer\, Salomon Sulzer\, Debbie Friedman\, Louis Lewandowski\, and more. Under the direction of Adam Green\, the Congregation Beth Israel choir and musicians will offer up a spring harvest of spirit and harmony. \nThe concert will be followed by a celebratory potluck. Following Ashkenazi Shavuot custom\, this meal is designated as a dairy meal (that means no meat; items may be dairy\, vegetarian\, vegan\, or pescatarian). SUMMARY:Chanukah Bonfire & Songfest
DESCRIPTION:We are still planning to go ahead with this event\, as it is anticipated that precipitation will end in North Adams well before 5:30pm. Should the storm make driving conditions difficult or unsafe as we get closer to the event and we have to postpone\, we will send out an email update. \nEveryone of all ages are welcome to join us on Monday\, December 11 (the fifth night of Chanukah) at 5:30pm for CBI’s annual Chanukah bonfire! We’ll sing Chanukah songs around the bonfire\, play with dreidels\, drink hot apple cider\, and enjoy homemade donuts and latkes. This event will be both indoor and outdoor — please dress warmly and bring a camp chair if you have one. Please RSVP via our website if you plan to attend so we can prepare enough food. \nFunding to help support CBI’s family education programs been provided by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

SUMMARY:Chanukah Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Come for latkes\, candle lighting\, drinks for the adults\, and dreidels and art for the kids! Bring your hanukkiah (Chanukah menorah) from home and we’ll light candles together. This event will be held at a private home in Shaftsbury\, VT. For more information and to RSVP\, please contact learning@cbiberkshires.com. \nFunding to help support CBI’s family education programs been provided by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. \n\nNEFESH is the Hebrew word for “soul\,” “self\,” or “living being.” We are a group of families in Southern VT and Western MA raising healthy kids grounded in Jewish community. NEFESH is about nourishing the social and spiritual soil of family life and giving our children a supportive and joyful environment inspired by Jewish culture\, traditions and values so that they will grow and thrive in a more just and healthy world.
